How Big Do They Grow - Aug 15, 2025
Dear gardening friends
Do you remember when Posties rode bush bikes?
My Postie drives a truck, how's this for a skid mark?
I'm not too cranky, it's been a wet winter.
But I can fix this skid mark.
I'll fill it with Tim's Topdressing as the weather warms up. It's a mix of Riversand, manure and compost. It's a fabulous product, but I just keep forgetting to tell you about it.
We've got Garden Maintenance man from the Eastern suburbs who drives all the way to Campbelltown to buy our Tim's Topdressing. He loves it, and so do his customers.
He brooms it into the lawns, after he mows them, it just disappears into the grass. It holds the water, it fertilises the grass, next minute you've got a beautiful green lawn.
I hope my Postie sees this post, he might just run over my letterbox, it's red, he can't say he didn't see it. It's got wi fi too. I'd be happy if he folded my letters and made paper planes, he could throw them out the window.
It's been so long since someone actually sent me a letter, I only get bills. My recent rates bill made me dizzy.
Dean turned up, it made me smile so much. It was his birthday last Thursday. We waited all day and he was a no show. "I was shopping" was his excuse.
Anyway we did keep the most important bit, Happy and Birthday got eaten, they were delicious.
Dean's cheese cake is still delicious today, he's having a lovely time, I gave him half my Custard tart too.
He's a cake eater, I'm helping him solve the world's problems now.
Dean's cake has fed so many people, it's brought us together, it's so nice to know he's safe and well.
What's the secret to growing fabulous fresh mint???
Grow it in a big pot, cut it back now to ground level. Mulch over the top of the stems with Tim's Best Potting mix.
The new growth will sprout up through the potting mix. You'll have so much fresh mint this spring.
You'll be making Mint sauce like my mother, or using it in curry's and salads. It's great in Greek yogurt too. It's time to plant mint. We have nice big plants.
It's not easy being a horticulturist, everywhere you go you see plants crying out for love and attention. This Olive tree in Camden, it's growing in a pot, the pot is too small now, the plant's going into decline, the insects move in, to feed on the plant.
You could spray it with Pestoil several times to control the scale insects, the black sooty mould follows the scale insects, there will be ants walking up the stems, the scale insects feed them, and the ants provide security. It's a circle of life.
The Olive tree really needs repotting, the roots and branches could be pruned, you could put it back in the same pot. A bigger pot would be better. The potting mix holds the water, the more potting mix, the more water and nutrients.
Spring is coming, that's the best time to repot all your plants. Come and get your Tim's Best Potting mix.
Happy gardening
Tim
