He’s The Ginger Bread Man - Nov 06, 2025
Dear gardening
One tree can make such a difference to your life. I turned up to a party once, it was a kids pool party, the parents could stay if they wanted but they all didn't.
I ended up helping cook the bbq while watching the kids swim. I became the unofficial lifesaver.
It was in a fancy suburb, the back yard faced west, they had a covered patio but the air wasn't cool. It was so hot, there wasn't a tree to be seen. It effected my mental health.
I watched those kids in the pool, two bullies turned up, they started hitting the other kids over the head with noodles. Then they started pushing kids it was a disaster waiting to happen.
I went inside to see how the cake was going, you can't go home until the cake gets cut. I asked them to light the candles.
I got those kids out of the pool, we started singing happy birthday on the way back into the house. The cake was still in the fridge!!!
The candles got lit, we sang the song again, I might have even sang why were you born so beautiful, it was a kids party, we ate the cake, we said goodbye.
When I got outside I discovered my son had climbed a telegraph pole, I started laughing, it was one of those days. We never got invited back.
Plant a tree if you want people to feel comfortable. A covered veranda with a fan isn't the answer. Stand under the shade of a tree, you will feel it.
He's the Ginger bread house man from Camden. I just walked past The Village Coffee Shop in Camden and noticed Ginger Bread Houses for sale already. Glenn Taylor baked over 1200 last Christmas, and he's hoping to beat that record this year.
He's started baking them already, he gets up at 2am to bake and create, these amazing houses you can eat. He got the Ginger bread recipe from The Women's Weekly Christmas Book. I can't wait to tell my mum, she's probably got a copy.
Glenn smiled when I told him that. He makes Ginger bread Christmas trees and Ginger Bread houses. He makes them out of Short bread too.
He sells them for just $37.50 which just sounds way too cheap. They can last up to 6 months but most will get eaten on Christmas Day.
You have to order them.
Glenn makes your Ginger bread house fresh.
I'm helping him break his record this year, I think 1200 can easily be beaten. It's nice to support people who are working so hard to become successful. It's nice to help locals.

People come and see me for all types of reasons, I'm happy to help, I listen to their stories. A customer came in to complain about her neighbours pine hedge. "It's dropping needles in my pool, I have to go out and sweep it up, it's all hanging over the fence".
I pictured that image in my mind, while they searched for the photo, this is not the photo. The conifer hedge looked amazing, it was dark green and healthy. It was very well behaved, it wasn't hanging over the fence, not in my mind anyway.
The complaint was about needles falling, this variety didn't have needles, but I'm sure during the dry weather some brown undergrowth would fall.
This story isn't about this story.
This story is about how we let things upset us. Are the problems really that bad? I told the customer that they aren't cleaning up mess, they are cleaning up nature.
Look how great you look and you are old. That hedge gets you outside in the sunshine, it keeps you fit, it keeps you moving. Look how healthy you are.
Now just imagine if that hedge you hate wasn't there.
What would you see instead? You'd see their two storey house, you wouldn't see green.
You'd hear them talking.
I had my say, I talked about a different way at looking at things. Cleaning up after nature is called gardening. Gardening keeps you alive, longer.
Stop calling nature mess.
Our Potted Hydrangeas are coming into bloom. They will look like these in a couple of weeks. They make inexpensive floral gifts that will flower for weeks and then they can plant it in their garden.
Hydrangeas are back in fashion. They are such hardy shrubs if you find the right aspect. They like morning sun and then shade.
They will grow beautifully on the eastern side of your house. That's where the sun comes up. Improve your garden soil with Tim's Cow manure or Tim's Best Potting mix. This will improve the soil and make it hold more water.
Hydrangeas grow 1.2ms high by 1.2ms wide. They can be pruned every winter to keep them smaller. They sprout fresh new growth in spring and then the flowers burst into bloom in November.
They can be grown in very large pots using Tim's Best Potting mix. The bigger the pot the more chance of survival. Hydrangeas are thirsty shrubs so they need your love.
We have beautiful big plants from $34.99.
We can happily gift wrap one for free.
Come se us tomorrow.
Happy gardening
Tim
