It’s Time To Plant Garlic!! - Mar 27, 2026
Dear gardening friends
Lots of anxiety in the community at the moment with war and fuel prices going up, it's easy to become absorbed by doom and gloom. But when you look up, you'll see beauty all around you.
This Lemon Scented Eucalyptus wasn't just looking good, it was smelling great too.
It made me smile.
When tourists come to Australia they take photos of our beautiful trees. They can't believe how big they grow and how spectacular they are. Then they smell the fragrant foliage and they fall in love with Australia.
I was on a bus trip here in Sydney and Nursery owners came from all around the world, I told them that we have a song over here that we sing every time we get back on a bus. It's called "Gum trees".
I'll teach you how to sing it.
"Gum trees gum trees, gum trees gum trees, gum trees gum trees guuuuuuuuum treeeeeeees."
It was a hit of course.
We have this amazing native ground covered called "Lime Lava". It's absolutely amazing. If you're looking for an interesting plant to add colour to your landscaping here it is.
"Lime Lava" just keeps spreading and it spreads like Lava flowing, thus the name. It also looks fabulous growing in pots as it spills over the sides.
It's very hard to find in nurseries, it loves a sunny position, it's easy to grow.
Plants cost $18.99.
Yes we are eating late tonight, I dropped in for a swim at Camden Pool on my way home, and later I discovered that Dan was cooking up a storm for his lunches this week.
So I had to make something fast and this one pot Pork dinner is so easy to make. I'm using Pork Ribs but you could use Lamb or Goat easily too.
You just arrange the meat to make pockets then fill them up with Cherry Tomatoes, Eggplant, Onions, Mushrooms and Capsicum. Cut up the vegetables into chunks.
Add Fetta cheese over the vegetables and fresh Rosemary from the garden. Drizzle Olive oil over everything then add the Juice of a Lemon or Lime. Add Green Olives or Black then drizzle with Balsamic vinegar.
Add Garlic, Cracked Pepper and Pink Salt. Put in a hot oven that's on 250 degrees on the grill setting if you have it. Cook for 35-40 minutes until the meat turns brown.
You'll be amazed how much juice/gravy comes out of the vegetables. Spoon this over everything then serve with Greek Yogurt.
Dan told me I've discovered a way to make vegetables taste delicious tonight. He's in the good books, he's making me a cup of tea now.
This is so easy to cook and it's so healthy.
Isn't it?
It's time to plant Broccoli and other winter vegetables. The nights have turned cooler now, so that means it time to plant Cabbage, Chinese Cabbage, Broccoli, Broccolini, Brussel sprouts, Peas, Sugar Snap peas, Celery, Carrots, Chives, Leeks, Spring Onions, Lettuce, Kale, Garlic, Strawberries, Silverbeet, Spinach etc.
You need to improve your soil with Tim's Cow manure. Dig one bag for every 2m2. Cover soil with Sugar cane and water well. Plant your seedlings through the mulch. Don't forget the snail pellets or they will get eaten over night.
To stop Caterpillars eating your leaves dust with Yates Tomato and Vegetable dust every 4-6 weeks. This product is amazing.
We have lots of new plants for autumn planting, come and see us this weekend. There's lots of rain around to help your plants grow.
Happy gardening
Tim
