Fresh Cut Christmas Trees Are Coming! - Nov 13, 2025
Dear gardening friends
I rescued a tree this week, growing in a park in Camden. It has been vandalised, someone had cut it off at ground level.
This beautiful Pin Oak grows into the most amazing shade tree but someone had decided they didn't like it.
This often happens to trees all around Australia. They get cut or broken off at ground level, and everyone thinks the tree will die.
But the tree has an established root system and if left, the tree will reshoot. It's only a matter of choosing the most vigorous shoot, and removing all the rest. That's what I did. You can see it already looks like a tree again.
I also staked it, to help protect it while it recovers. I fed it with Tim's FAST FOOD Fertiliser and watered it with Wettasoil. I'll come back and remove any shoots that grow from the base. We only want one trunk. Now when you see a tree like this, you'll be able to save it.
A big shout out to the gardener who lives in this old house in Tumut. I said to Dan as we drove past, I'll take a photo of that on the way back out.
If you want to see beautiful Roses go to any country town now. Here in Tumut all the roses were glowing with fresh healthy growth, and flowers!!!!
Roses don't like humidity, it causes them to get fungus diseases. Here in Tumut they are thriving. Every garden had Roses and the colours were amazing in the perfect light.
Spring is a month behind here, I saw Pig face still flowering, check out the amazing Red variety growing in the wheelbarrow, could that possibly be Tim's Best Potting mix?
They had hanging baskets full of spring colour with Petunias. Do you remember when everyone grew Petunias in pots and gardens???
They still look amazing.
A gardener lives here. They grow flowers for themselves of course, but I'm sure everyone who walks past here tells the owner how nice their garden is. Gardeners are very giving too.
I parked my car here in Campbelltown this morning, and started to smile. My son Dan grew this Jacaranda tree from a seed, and we planted his tree here, while he was going to St Peter's Primary School.
Council had given up planting trees here because a truck driver used to back over them, while doing deliveries to Campbelltown RSL.
We planted a Jacaranda tree because there are already several in the street. If you plant the same variety of tree, it looks so much more spectacular when they all come into flower.
The flower colour goes beautifully with the modern building and art work. It took about 5 years to flower. This year it's really putting on a show.
I got paid to plant the Jacaranda trees on the corner. It was a hot day and the trees were Super advanced so we had to dig huge holes in terrible clay soil. I've never planted a Super advanced trees since that day.
In those days Queen street was booming, so many people walked past and asked us what we were doing? Planting trees we replied, "You're wasting your time, they'll all get pulled out".
When you plant trees you are more likely to have a positive outlook on life. You're planting for tomorrow. If those trees got pulled out I would have just planted more.
Some great news!!! Supertunia "Jazzberry" are back in stock. This amazing ground cover plant will spill over the sides of your hanging baskets and pots. It will cover the ground in your garden.
They flower non stop through spring, summer and autumn. Sometimes they survive winter and grow again.
They come in a variety of colours but this purple flowering variety called "Jazzberry" is my favourite.
They grow beautifully in Tim's Best Potting mix. This is one plant, growing in this big pot. Give them room to grow, they like a sunny position.
Plants cost $18.99, we always sell out.

Fresh Cut Christmas Trees are coming. First weekend in December, they should look great this year. They make your house smell like Christmas.
Happy gardening
