Winter vegetable seedlings are ready to plant - Mar 03, 2023

It's fun gardening in Autumn!

Dear gardening friends
Fast Eddie has just driven in.
He was after a Lollipop Lillypilly to match one he's already got. I love Eddie, he's full of life, he always makes me laugh.

He had plastic bags hanging off his scooter big time today. He looked like the plastic bag man.

He was telling me he's found a new coffee shop in Campbelltown Mall near the fruit shop, that sells Vittoria Coffee. He gets there at 6am and waits for them to open. They must be nice to him, Eddie is always up for a chat. He loves a bit of gossip.

He's a mad gardener, so is his wife.
Eddie hasn't let his lack of mobility stop him from gardening. He drives his scooter all the way up Broughton street to Ruse.

Hopefully his new tree won't tip him over. If you see Eddie on his side, help him up. He will still be laughing, Eddie never stops laughing.

Someone we both know very well planted this tree in a car park. They could tell that a tree used to live here, the stump was still in the ground.

But like so many shopping centre car parks, over time the trees mysteriously disappear.

This Ivory Curl Tree is a native rainforest tree. It will attract nature back into the city. A bee was happily collecting nectar this morning, it made me smile. Lorikeets and other nectar feeding birds will arrive during the day, to feed on these flowers.

Planting trees makes you feel good.
You're not just planting them for yourself, you're planting them for nature to enjoy, you're planting them for shade, you're planting them so people have better mental health. Aren't trees are amazing.
(Buckinghamia celsissima. We have some in the nursery.)

I was talking to Kel my butcher yesterday, and he wanted to know how the slow cooked sausages turned out. "Mate it even made your sausages taste good."
He laughed.

But I'd been looking at a free range chicken in the window, and I told him I wouldn't mind slow cooking that. Kel said he often pops one in the slow cooker at work, and the crew eat it for lunch. He pops a lemon inside it, and some Rosemary over the top.

Well I'm trying Kels recipe today.
I've put 2 Lemons inside my chicken. I've picked fresh Rosemary from my potted plant.

I've chucked in 3x large potatoes, 4x Carrots and an Onion. Plus 3 x Anchovies, cracked pepper and salt.

Tonight I'll chuck in a handful of black olives. I'll serve the chicken on a bed of Hummus. It's going to be amazing and so simple.

You probably wonder why I like these one pot meals so much. I love saving energy. It makes sense to me to cook things using the least amount of pots, pans and energy.

But if you think my electricity bill is low, it isn't, my bill is horrendous.

Apparently I've got 10 people living in my house, and I've got 18 solar panels on the roof.

My kids spend 3 days in the shower.
They must be dirty.

I over cooked this dinner. Kel told me to cook it for 6 hours but by the time I got home it was 10 hours. It still tasted so nice but it was too mushy for me. I'll try it again but cook it less. (Dan thought it was nice and juicy)

Are you looking for a ground covering plant that grows in sun or shade, and has the wow factor????

Star Jasmine Tricolour has green pink and white leaves. It's pretty spectacular and it's so easy to grow. It's loved by garden designers in the Eastern Suburbs, so it's getting hard to find in nurseries.

We've been waiting months for these to arrive. We have beautiful plants for $17.99. One plant will cover at least 1m2.

They can be grown in pots using Tim's Best Potting mix. We have 20 plants only.
More coming next week if you miss out.

It's autumn, we don't like summer in the nursery industry. It's hard for even us to keep plants alive in summer. But the weather cools down now so it's more fun to be outside getting your hands dirty.

Autumn seedlings have arrived.
Pansies, Violas and Primulas are coming back if you want to plant flowers for winter.

Winter vegetables are back in stock too.
Cabbage, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Beetroot, Lettuce, Silverbeet, Sugar snap peas, Leeks and Onions. Grow Carrots and Radish from seeds.

Prepare you soil first by digging in Tim's Cow Manure and Chicken Manure.
If you give you soil a double dose you'll have fabulous root and foliage crops.

Cover your soil with Sugar cane to keep the water in the soil and to stop the weeds from growing.

If you need help in the garden, come and see us. Happy gardening
Tim
