Desert Rose has arrived! - Mar 04, 2022

Free Lollipops for kids!!!

Dear gardening friends
Well we haven't seen rain like that for a while. I hope you all survived.
I had a river running through my garden.
Ive lost a lot of mulch.
It's been washed away.

I posted a photo of Steve Cooper carrying bee hives away from the flood waters, at Camden's Community Garden, wearing just a tee shirt and shorts. The bees were still flying in and out of the hive.
He's got to get an award for that.
He and his mate Justin O'Brien saved 6 hives. That's over 100,000 bees.
What a great story.

I noticed this beautiful garden in Macarthur Road Elderslie last week. They have a border of Alternanthera "Little Ruby" that looks spectacular. They have planted it in front of a Buxus hedge and the green and maroon really pop.

We loved this garden so much, we asked our supplier to do us a deal, so we can sell them cheaper to you. We've dropped the price to just $11.99 for perfect plants. We have 60 plants only. They are still in the trays. You'll find them in the ground cover bed.

"Little Ruby" grows 30cms high by 80cms wide. It can be clipped at any height or width. It's up to you. It's easy to grow.

It doesn't like heavy frost.
It grows here in our garden no problems, but it does look it's best in the warmer months. Limited supply.

We have Buxus plants here from just $6.99.
Japanese box makes a great hedge, and it always looks green and beautiful.
We have large and small leaf varieties.

Plant Collectors Alert!!!
We haven't had "Desert Rose" in stock for ages. These amazing plants have a swollen trunk that allows them to survive in the desert.

They grow well in pots, in sunny protected positions, outside. They don't like the winter cold, so best to bring them inside over winter.

They can be worth hundreds of dollars when the trunk develops and they start to flower. They look like Bonsai.

We have beautiful plants that have swollen trucks already for just $7.99.
These won't last long at this price.
It's botanically known as Adenium obesum.
Come see.
Limited supply.

Just found two handfuls of Curl grubs in the one pot. No wonder the plants were struggling to survive.

These grubs eat the roots off your plants, until the plants drop dead.

Luckily this wet weather is bringing the Curl grubs to the surface. They can't breathe, so they come to the surface for air.

Check out all your pots now.
If the soil is all disturbed, you most likely have Curl grubs. Dig your fingers into the soil and you'll soon find them.

There's no need to use chemicals.
Just manually remove the grubs.
Replace the potting mix if it's full of grubs like this pot was. Use our Tim's Best potting mix for best results.

Feed the Curl grubs to your chooks.
Or put them in your bin.
Don't chuck them in your lawn or garden. They will disappear back into the soil in minutes and do more damage.

I had a laugh when I wrote this story about our Lollipop jar. Some people took it very, very seriously.

We've just had two terrorists here.
They went around filling all the birdbaths up with stones, even after two of our staff asked them not too.

They had the devil in their eyes.
They were up to mischief.
Hayden rang thru to the shop.
"Quick hide the lollipops".
These kids don't deserve one.

When the kids got to the counter they asked for a lollipop, only to be told they were too naughty for lollipops.

Their parents got a shock.
They hadn't been supervising them.
They were like free range chickens.

They'd spread the reading books all over the floor too. It looked like my son Dan's bedroom, except he doesn't read books.

The mother came back and apologised for her children's behaviour. We're still finding rocks.

Let's hope they behave a bit better next time. Most of our children are angels.

The next boy in helped his mother push a trolley around. That kid's getting two lollipops!!!!!

When you've mowed your lawn come and see us. Your gardens will need touching up with more mulch. You'll have plants that have died in the big wet.
We've had a few casualties here.

There's lots of bugs about too with these great growing conditions. Check your native plants for Scale insects. They are in the Nymph stage, so they can move around.
They are tiny white winged insects now.
They will become Scale insects, that attach to your plants, and they suck out the nutrients.

I've never seen Scale in such large numbers. We've sprayed here today with Pestoil. You have to soak the plants, over and under the leaves. They will be near the base of your plants. Spray twice in 7 days for best results. You need to spray now.
It's urgent.

Bring pests in for identification.
In a plastic bag, with damaged leaves.
Photos aren't good enough.

We are taking 25% off Frangipanis.
We have the biggest selection in Macarthur.
We have 30 plus colours.
Come see.

Happy gardening
Tim
