We smell funny for a reason! - Feb 05, 2016
Dear Gardening Friends,
The best time to fertilise plants is when they are actively growing so we have fertilised all our outdoor potted plants with "Rapid Raiser" this week.
You may notice the lovely organic fragrance next time you visit. "Rapid Raiser" is an organic pelletised fertiliser that is used by the botanic gardens around Australia. It can be used on all types of plants which just makes gardening so much easier. You can buy a 20kg bag from us for just $23.99 so it's great value too.
Use it on your rose bushes, citrus trees, pot plants, hanging baskets, ornamentals and veggie gardens. We use it on native plants too but we just use less of it. Organic fertilisers feed your plants gently and encourage earth worms. The worms help to break down the clay so your plants grow better!
Karyn was busy in the garden yesterday. Even our gardens need a makeover every now and then. We had plants that had just rotted during this hot humid weather so Karyn pulled them out. She dug some Planting Compost in, then spruced up the garden with pink flowering Gaura. These perennials flower for at least 6 months and just add that bit of colour.
Our gardens are looking amazing at the moment especially the African Marigolds. These are the large flowering varieties. They are so heat tolerant and just seem to thrive in our gardens. Religious groups often use these bright flowers in ceremonies. Simply "pop off" the spent flowers with your fingers as they they go brown so that new flowers can come through. We have these in punnets and potted colour if you want to add a splash of colour to your place.
Mango trees do fruit in Campbelltown and I spotted this beautiful tree growing in Claymore. The owners also had Banana trees covered in fruit. Customers often ask me about Dwarf Mango trees but this Bowen Mango has only grown 3-5 meters high in 20 years so who needs s dwarf?
Mango trees just like Citrus trees grow better if you plant them on a mound of Planting Compost improved soil. We have beautiful Mango trees that are at least shoulder high for around $43.00. Plant now before the cold weather arrives!
I spotted some plant labels strangling some of our plants yesterday. These plastic ties can ring bark your trees and kill them if you forget to remove them. If you have planted trees lately make sure you remove the labels.
I have spoken to Flemings nursery about the danger of using these ties on their plants.
A new Rubber tree has arrived this week. Rubber trees got a bad name in the 70s because people planted them in their gardens and they grew into enormous trees and damaged concrete and pipes. But if they are kept in pots they make amazing indoor plants with large shiny leaves that pop!
This new one is called Ficus "Lemon n Lime". The leaves are so Jurassic!
Indoor plants remove the toxins from the air inside your house so they are essential in a modern home. You need at least 5 indoor plants to make a difference. The air outside your house is actually cleaner than inside. That's scary!!!!
We have an oversupply of Frangipanis so we are offering our Tims Garden Club members a special price. They normally sell for $29.99 each but you can buy 2 for just $40.00. They are big plants ready to flower and we even have the rare red flowering varieties!!!!
Pig was stolen this week but only for about 10 minutes. The robbers didn't have a getaway car so they were seen walking down Queen street with pig. Ryan from the car yard next door heard pig squeal and pig was quickly rescued by the Motel manager next door. Happy ending!
Pig now has security.
Happy Gardening
Tim
