Win this amazing succulent garden - Mar 12, 2021

Help us raise money for Beyondblue.

Dear gardening friends
I asked Hayden to make us a succulent garden, that we could raffle to raise money for Beyondblue. He was almost disinterested to start with, artists are like that.

But then he chose some plants and laid them out on the ground. He chose a pot that would compliment these colours. then he got planting.

We don't use Cacti and Succulent potting mix here. We use Tim's Best Potting Mix.
We've discovered that these plants grow beautifully in our famous potting mix.

Hayden used a Kalanchoe beharensis as the centre piece. This large leaf grey succulent has leaves that look like elephants ears!!!!
It's a collectors plant that's so rare we've had to grow them ourselves from cuttings.

Hayden arranges the other plants around this by colour and foliage shape. He has spill over plants for effect.
The results are spectacular!!!!!!

You could win this amazing succulent pot.
We are selling tickets 3 for $5.00.
Or $2.00 each. Winner will be drawn at the end of the month.

This will look sensational in a sunny spot on your patio. It's a talking point.
It's a Hayden Creation.

It's time to plant winter vegetables and flowers in your garden. If you don't have a garden then grow your vegetables and flowers in pots.

I've noticed when Hayden makes a vegetable garden he always plants flowers in the garden too. It just makes the garden look so much better. It's arty too.

What can you plant now??????

HERBS – plant chives, curry, dill, mint, parsley, sage and thyme.

FRUIT & VEGETABLE – plant artichoke, asparagus, beetroot, broad beans, broccoli, Brussels sprout, cabbage, carrot, cauliflower, celery, endive, leek, lettuce, onion, peas, snow peas, silver beet, spinach and radish.

FLOWERS – plant alyssum, aquilegia, begonia, calendula, cineraria, cornflower, cyclamen, delphinium, dianthus, erigeron, foxglove, geranium, hollyhock, larkspur, lobelia, nemesia, pansy, polyanthus, poppy, primula, ranunculus, snapdragon, stock and viola.

Remember if your planting seedlings, you have to improve the soil first before planting.

Dig Tim's Cow Manure into your soil. One bag treats about 3m2.

As you're turning over the soil, remove any white Curl grubs. These eat plant roots.

Don't forget that Tim's Cow Manure is real Cow manure. Bunnings and other stores are selling a product called Composted Cow Manure. This only contains 25% Cow Manure and 75% Green waste.
That's why it full of sticks and wood.
It's an inferior product, It's a rip off.
You have to buy 4 bags of this, to get one bag of Cow manure.

Once you've dug Tims Cow Manure into your soil, sprinkle the soil with Tims FAST FOOD Fertiliser. This has all the nutrients that plants need for growth and flowers.

Mulch with Sugar Cane, and water well.
Plant your seedlings through the mulch.
Water twice daily for a week then once a day after that. Don't forget the snail pellets.

In the next couple of weeks you're going to see Tibouchinas bursting into bloom. They are flowering in the city already.

These amazing shrubs, and small trees have the most amazing purple flowers.

The most popular variety is Tibouchina Alstonville. It grows into a small tree about 4-6 metres high. If you've been to Alstonville, you see these growing as street trees, they have made the town famous.

There is another smaller growing variety called "Jazzie". This flowers more often than "Alstonville" and doesn't grow as tall.

A clever plant breeder has crossed these two varieties, and bred a fabulous new plant called Tibouchina "Purple Star".

It flowers twice as long as "Alstonville" and only grows 2 metres high.

It's the perfect size for today's courtyard sized gardens. It has dark green foliage which makes the staminate purple flowers really pop. This plant is a winner.

Have you noticed all the dead Cypress trees? There are rows of dead Cypress trees throughout Macarthur.
These trees got attacked by borers during the drought and they have never recovered.

Don't plant them again.
That would be crazy.
We have a fantastic hedging plant called Photinia Super Hedge. This self branching variety grows super fast and it's perfect for acreage planting.

You can plant them up to 2 metres apart and they will grow into a wall of foliage 4-6 metres high by 2ms wide. They grow super fast. They don't get attacked by borers.
They grow bushy, without any help from you!

We have beautiful Photinia Super Hedge plants that are up to 1.2ms high already.
You can buy 2 plants for $50.00.
That's a bargain for plant this big.
They can be pruned to any height or width.

It's a great time to be out in the garden.
Come and see us if you need help.
We can help you have success.
Happy gardening
