Spring Is The Best Time To Plant Everything!

Spring Is The Best Time To Plant Everything!

Dear Gardening
Our Tomato seedlings have arrived. Yes it’s time to plant Tomatoes. You must grow at least one of our famous Tim’s Fruit Fly Resistant Tomatoes. This heirloom variety has a natural resistance to fruit fly.

It has very sweet tasting, apricot sized tomatoes. The plant gets covered in over 100 fruit. It can be grown in a big pot, it’s easy to grow, you don’t need any nasty chemicals.

Plant it in a big pot using Tim’s Best Potting mix. Stake to support the foliage and the fruit. It looks fabulous when it’s covered in sweet tasting fruit. They can ripen on the vine.

Water it daily, apply Tim’s FAST FOOD at Christmas time, to extend the fruiting season. This Tomato just keeps giving. You’ll be giving fruit away to friends.

Tim’s Fruit Fly Resistant Tomatoes cost $5.25.
Check out our other fabulous heirloom varieties including Tim’s Italian Tomato. These Tomatoes taste amazing. They are sweeter than honey!!

It’s the first day of spring and my son Dan was busy putting his honey in jars last night, so you can have some on toast today.

His bees have been so busy through winter they have filled the hives with honey. Dan extracts the honey and puts it in jars. It’s all natural, no heat treatment.

Local Honey can sometimes help people who suffer from allergies and rashes through spring. If you eat the honey that’s been produced by bees in your area, you may notice an improvement in your health.

The honey just happens to taste delicious too. It’s so light in colour. It’s sweeter than honey!

It’s spring, so it’s a great time to visit us.
Our nursery is full of spring colour.

If you grew up in the 60s then your parents would have had one of these spring flowering shrubs in their garden. It’s called a May Bush, it has arching branches that are covered in white flowers.

They are incredibly hardy shrubs, every garden had one. They would still be in your old gardens, they are survivors.

Did you have one in your garden as a child?

We always get a few of these in for spring. Plant one in your garden and you will love the pure white double flowers. They grow in full sun or semi sun. They are so easy to grow. They are in flower now. $29.99.

Flowering Plums are nearly always called Flowering Cherries, that’s because they do have these amazing double pink flowers.

But Flowering Plums flower weeks before Flowering Cherries, and they are much easier to grow, that’s why you see them growing everywhere.

You don’t see too many Flowering Cherries in Macarthur.

Luckily we know this, so we stock up every winter with Flowering Plums, but they will all be sold within 4 weeks.

Now you need to be careful because there are several varieties of Flowering Plum, some are shocking and they get tiny single pink flowers. You won’t be happy.

So make sure you get this one, it’s botanically known as Prunus × blireiana. It’s super easy to grow, it’s so tough. It grows quickly to about 3ms x 3ms. You can prune it to any height.

Dig a bag of Tim’s Potting mix into your garden where you’re going to plant it. It will make your tree grow faster. We have Flowering Plums in stock today.

It’s time to spray your lawn to control broadleaf weeds like Bindi and Clover. We have a fabulous product here called DART. It’s a selective weed killer that kills the weeds without killing your lawn.

It’s always best to spray your lawn when it hasn’t been mown for a week. DART controls broadleaf weeds but if you spray after you’ve mown the lawn it won’t find the weeds as well.

When you mix up the spray it’s 50mls in 2-5 litres of water over 100m2. It’s important you know how big your lawn is. If you spray this over 200m2 then you’ve used it at half strength so it won’t work.

After you’ve mixed your spray add a squirt of Dish washing liquid. This acts as a spreader and makes the spray stick to the weed leaves better. Spray your lawn until all the spray is gone. Spray again in 7-10 days time for best results.

Never spray on windy days or when rain is expected. Keep your pets off the grass until the spray dries. This takes about 20 minutes on a sunny day. Don’t spray if the grass is still wet from dew.

Test your sprayer on the concrete, and adjust the sprayer jet, so it giving good coverage. Spray before your Clover starts to flower to protect the bees. If you’d rather have weeds and happy pollinators, that’s up to you. We have DART in stock, it’s amazing.
Happy gardening
