You will love the perfume - Jun 22, 2012
Dear gardening friends,
We are all freezing here today. Lisa, Karyn and Russell have all put on gloves; lime green and hot pink are the chosen colours, I think they may have been inspired by pig.
Pig has gone Gaga today, see photos for more details.
We have finally finished potting up our new season roses and fruit Trees but we are still waiting for our grape fines to arrive.
This week we have potted up all our new release roses from Swane's Nursery. I worked at Swane's Nursery when I was in my 20's. More recently Ryan worked for Swane's Nursery for 10 years or more so he knows everything about roses. He is always spraying them with a Seasol mixture in spring and summer to help stop them getting black spot fungus diseases.
Ryan often smells like rotting seaweed! This year we asked Ryan to choose the most fragrant roses that Swane's have ever grown. Some are old favourites but many are new releases that will knock your smelly socks off! We are hoping they will make even Ryan smell better.
If you love fragrant roses then come and see "Ryan's Perfumed Selection". Swane's put a little perfume bottle on the rose label, the more fragrant the rose is, the more perfume bottles they put on the label. If the label has 3 perfume bottles then you should be able to smell this rose on your way home from work!
Ryan has only chosen the roses with the 3 perfumed bottles. When these roses come into flower Tim's Garden Centre is going to smell like a perfume factory.
The only thing is he has only bought 10 of each variety so we are expecting to sell them very fast.
Many of these roses even have beautiful names, Scentimental, Heaven Scent, Sweet Intoxication and Flirtatious to name just a few.
Have a read of this blurb I have just found describing the new rose called "Sweet Intoxication"
"Seductive fountains of rich magenta blooms will permeate your garden with an alluring clove fragrance, an aroma powerful enough to leave you light headed. Sparkling amethyst clusters beguile even the most precocious rose lover with non stop colour and fragrance season after season. Glossy green foliage and a columnar, upright growth habit make Sweet Intoxication the ultimate garden vixen, standing strong while casting a spell"
Wow that got me warmed up!
We have over 2000 roses here at the nursery right now. Come and see Ryan and he will show you his perfumed favourites. Remember we pot all our roses into 200mm pots using the very best quality potting mix. This means we don't cut all the roots off like they do with those roses you see in the chain stores in those tiny bags. We guarantee all our roses will grow and we replace them if they don't. For best results dig Tim's Cow Manure into your soil prior to planting and mulch with sugar cane. Never fertilise your roses with Rose Food when planting or they will die. Apply Rose Food in October when the plants have established. Attached is a Rose list if you would like to see which varieties we have in stock.
My mother loves roses and she has always had a rose garden. When I was growing up we used to play soccer on the front lawn and our soccer ball gave mums roses hell. Sometimes the roses gave the soccer ball hell too. If the roses didn't stop the ball it would often land in our next door neighbours place. I didn't know it then, but I have just realised our neighbour was a bikie.
If the ball landed on his lawn and he was out there working on his motor bike he would pick up the ball and kick it over his house into the creek. If he wasn't so fat, he could have played for The Swans!
One of us kids would already be running down the lane way as the ball landed on his lawn hoping to see where the big kick landed.
When we went on holidays at Christmas time our neighbour would turn our garden hose on. When we came back 6 weeks later we had the greenest lawn in the street. The Liquidambar tree seemed to love it. Water was pretty cheap in those days thank goodness. P.S He died a lonely man.
Mums roses never thrived but one day we left the car door open and the hand brake off. As the car rolled out the driveway the car door took out 3 of mums favourites.
I did a delivery in Currans Hill during the week and spotted this sensational Red Hot Poker. Check out this fantastic looking garden. Look how the Red Hot Poker really makes this garden look wow! We will have Red Hot Pokers available on the bulb stand in a couple of weeks. They are not bulbs; they are a persistent hardy shrub and almost death proof. See Karyn at the counter if you would like to preorder some. They are so cheap to buy in winter, bare rooted.
Karyn's garden is starting to look fabulous now all the pansies are starting to flower. There is still time for you to add some pansy colour around your home. They will flower non stop until November. We have a new 6 pack potted colour range that sells for just $10.99. If you buy 2 packs they cost just $10.00 each. That's 12 potted colour plants for $20.00!
They will make your garden come alive just like the red poker did in that Currans Hill garden.
Would you like us to come and spray your lawn to control clover and bindii?

Simon, Sarah and new baby Lily are doing well - apparently they have "the perfect baby". Rumor has it Simon has only changed 2 nappies so far, but he has built a new deck!
Noreen went fishing on the weekend and hooked a shark, luckily it got off.
Come and visit us, would love to see you wearing some colourful gloves, and if you cant get here, remember to like us on facebook!
Happy gardening
