Can An Indoor Plant Make You Happy? - May 30, 2025

Dear gardening friends
Mark Frail rang me wanting to know if I wanted to sell his Luculias? This fragrant shrub has become a Collector plant because so few growers still grow it.

Luculia fragrance is right up there with Daphnes. When you smell the fragrant flowers, you close your eyes and think of heavenly things.

Luculias grow in full sun or part shade. They grow 2ms high by 1.5ms wide. They can be grown in pots using Tim's Best Potting mix.

These Luculias are old school varieties, they are much easier to grow than the newer varieties, they grow. Plants cost $35.99. Bring your nose down today for a sniff test.

Can an indoor plant make people feel better?
I was in a Doctors Surgery, waiting room yesterday, and I noticed the room didn't have any indoor plants. People were coughing and spluttering, it was a cheerless place.

When I got back to the nursery I noticed we had a beautiful Kentia Palm, this is one of the toughest indoor plants on the planet, its native to Lord Howe Island, the seeds are exported all around the world.

I potted that Kentia Palm up into a beautiful glazed pot using Tim's Best Potting mix, I took it back to the Doctors Surgery. I placed it in this corner, it looked amazing.

I noticed the sick people had started talking to each other, there was laughter, I may have whipped the large fronds into people faces as I was carrying it in. But the atmosphere had certainly changed. The Office girls were in a flutter.

I chose one of them to be in charge of its survival. Please water this once a week only, with 2 litres of water. She laughed, "I don't know how to look after plants". Yes you do, it's easy.
She laughed.

Indoor plants have been proven to make us feel better. Offices that have indoor plants have more reliable staff, they come to work more often. Isn't that interesting?

Indoor plants also remove dangerous toxins from the air given off by building products and paints and carpets. They clean the air naturally.

Every Doctors Surgery should have indoor plants if they have windows like this one that let the light in.
This indoor plant made me happy!

It's Zygo season. Yes these beautiful named Zygo Cactus are back for winter. We've got them in slightly bigger pots than this for $14.99.

Named Varieties are much more collectable, because you'll know which ones you've got. Only one grower names them, and we've got their Zygo Cactus in the nursery today.

Pot them up into hanging baskets or bigger pots using Tim's Best Potting mix. It makes them grow bigger and better so they get more flowers.

We only have named varieties for a very short time.
It's a window of opportunity for plant collectors.

Zygo cactus are easy to grow outside, where they get morning sun and then shade. They require little help from you to survive. They are amazing and sooooo easy to grow!

The Red Scarfs are back!!!!!! I've had the Scarf factory in full production this week, it was freezing. Tylor stood and watched me.

Every year we sell these amazing warm Red Scarfs to raise money for charity. They cost just $10.00, and all money raised goes to The African AIDS Foundation in Camden.

The 2025 model is even warmer. They stop the warm air escaping. They make you look great. I wear mine all winter. I gave Tylor one just for watching.

They are on our shop counter now. I bet you wish you had one right now. It was snowing on Mt Annan this week.

Happy gardening
Tim
