Winter Gardening

Winter is a great time for gardeners, the weather is cool enough for you to do all those jobs that you put off in the heat of summer. Mulching will give your garden a fresh facelift and also protect the root zone from the cold winter mornings and keep in precious moisture.

Winter is the best time to plant roses. We have over 3000 bare rooted roses that arrive in late may. This is the best time to buy a rose as we have so many varieties to choose, from old fashioned favourites like Mister Lincoln and Peace, to newer releases like Abracadabra.

We will also have lots of the new ‘Macarthur Rose’. This rose was released last year to commemorate the bicentenary of John Macarthur. Last year it was so popular it sold out very quickly, we have ordered extra this year but get in quick as supply is still limited. The beautiful bright red flowers are fragrant and their long stems make them perfect for cutting so you can enjoy them inside.

Don’t forget winter is the time to prune the roses in your garden. Make sure you spray them with lime sulphur to get rid of any pests or diseases that may be on the stems or in the soil. Digging in ‘Tim’s Cow Manure’ will ensure great flowers next spring. Our qualified garden service team can do this for you if you are unsure or would like a professional job done, just give us a call to make a booking.

As well as roses we have a huge range of fruit and spring blossom trees available in the winter. With the price of fruit constantly rising planting your own fruit trees can save you money, not to mention the better taste of home grown fruit.

If you have limited space we have a range of dwarf fruit trees. Varieties include citrus, apples, peaches, nectarines and cherries. They all produce large sized fruit on smaller growing trees, perfect for pots or small gardens. Winter gardening jobs.

Make sure yo0u dig Tim’s Cow Manure through the soil before planting and always cover the soil with sugar cane mulchSpray your fruit trees and spring blossom trees while they are naked! Using lime sulphur will protect your deciduous trees and the best time is while they are bare. Digging in Tim’s Cow Manure will ensure you get healthy new growth in the spring time.
